Same-Day Dental Crowns

CEREC machine milling a ceramic dental crown for a same-day crown appointment

If you've ever needed a crown the traditional way, you probably remember the two visits, the temporary that never felt quite right, and the two-week wait while a lab made your permanent crown. At Feinberg Dental, we've replaced that old model with CEREC same-day dental crowns—so you can walk in and leave with a custom, long-lasting crown in just one visit.

How CEREC Technology Eliminates the Two-Week Wait

CEREC uses digital impressions, computer-aided design (CAD/CAM), and in-office milling to create strong, natural-looking crowns right here in our practice. There’s no messy impression material, no temporary crown, and no return visit for placement—everything is completed the same day.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a protective cap placed over a damaged tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance. You might need one after a root canal, for a cracked or decayed tooth, or to improve the look of a discolored or misshapen tooth. Crowns preserve tooth structure, prevent further damage, and help you chew comfortably.

The Old Way: Why Traditional Crowns Took So Long

  • First visit: Prep the tooth, take impressions, and place a temporary crown.
  • Wait: Two weeks or more while a dental lab fabricates the crown.
  • Second visit: Remove the temporary, place the final crown, and adjust as needed.

Temporaries often loosen or crack, and final crowns sometimes need extra adjustments—meaning more visits and more hassle.

Meet CEREC: What Happens in a Same-Day Crown Visit

  • Digital Imaging: A small camera captures a precise 3D scan—no goopy molds.
  • Crown Design: Dr. Feinberg designs a virtual restoration that fits your bite and matches nearby teeth.
  • In-Office Milling: A high-speed unit mills your crown from high-quality ceramic.
  • Placement: We bond the crown, fine-tune the bite, and you’re on your way.

Why Patients Love Same-Day Crowns

  • Time-saving: Finished in one visit—no second appointment.
  • More comfortable: Digital scans replace traditional impressions.
  • Fewer complications: No temporary crown to crack or fall off.
  • Natural appearance: Color-matched ceramic blends with your smile.
  • Precision fit: CAD/CAM design means fewer adjustments.
  • Durable: Strong, long-lasting esthetic ceramics.

What to Expect During and After Your Visit

Total appointment time: about 1.5 to 2.5 hours. We’ll numb the area, prepare the tooth, scan, design, and mill your crown, then bond it in place. There’s no downtime—you can return to normal activities right away. Avoid sticky foods for 24 hours while the bonding fully sets, and mild gumline sensitivity (if any) typically resolves quickly. If you clench or grind, a night guard may be recommended to protect your new crown.
